Shamrock Run 5K

So, here I am running the Shamrock Run 5k. I did the 3.1 miles in 31.11 minutes. Not bad for a mom with two kids that hasn't run a 5K in 10 years! I began training just before Christmas. Things started VERY slowly. I'm now running about 13 miles per week. That's running 5 days, off one day and step class the 7th day. It's really hard to find the time to exercise with little kids. I've been dancing, but that doesn't cut it for me with the cardiovascular exercise that I really need. After Frost, I was diagnosed with diastasis recti which makes it impossible to do core exercises. I'll be having surgery on that as soon as Frost is weaned. It's not the kind of postpartum injury that you want, but oh well. You do with what you have - and I can remain upright running.

The run itself was a lot of fun. I believe just under 11,000 people ran in all the events making it the biggest Shamrock Run ever.

Homeschooling

Okay - how can I stress how great homeschooling is? The kids are totally exploring the world from pure curiosity, and that curiosity is not being diminished by authority of any kind. There's no competition, nasty little people, tests, grades. Think of the world with total freedom to do what you want, when you want. x -> infinity!!! The possibilities are endless. Here's what we're doing in our co-op:

Cooperative games
Nature Studies
Weather
Field Trips to Audubon Society and 19c. farmhouse (Philip Foster Farm)
Theater
Making Birdfeeders
Making Calendars
Holiday Celebrations
Book Making
Storytelling
Sewing
Chemistry
Volcanos
Water Reclaimation System
Gardening
Bird's Nests

What kindergartener wouldn't love these activities? We are having a blast! Lily loves to read, explore, create. I'm so happy we made this choice.
